The Becker Green Classroom really stands on its own as one of the best gardening, environmental and sustainability educational facilities in AISD. Sitting on a full lot, the Green Classroom offers plots for every class to work with weekly, plus communal plots, an outdoor kitchen as well as outdoor and indoor educational spaces. This is my thirteenth year teaching first grade at Shaffer. Literacy is my passion, which is the reason I love teaching first grade. My background in literacy includes a M.A.Ed. in Reading from Regis University and I am certified as a K-1 Reading Specialist. My goal is to have EVERY child love reading by the end of first grade!
While literacy is my passion, I really love all subjects. I received my Bachelors of Science in Business Administration, and worked in the business world before becoming a teacher, so I know the value of having strong math, science, and social studies skills, too.
I'm proud of the high expectations the Shaffer community and staff share for our wonderful student leaders! I, particularly, value the partnership between parents and myself, for it is the most important way we can work to help students be successful.
I am a strong believer in the values of the Leader in Me program we live here at Shaffer. Each year I'm delighted with the ways ALL my students show me they can be leaders! I encourage all students to try THEIR best as we learn and lead together!
