Statement about MATHCOUNTS programming during the coronavirus/COVID-19 outbreak

Out of concern for participants’ health amid the Coronavirus/COVID-19 outbreak, and in compliance with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s recommendation on March 15, 2020 that gatherings of 50 or more people in the U.S. be canceled for the next eight weeks:

Individual competitions. ENGINEERING FRESHMAN PROBLEM SOLVING. MARKETING & QUIZ BOWL COMMUNICATIONS. ROBOTICS SHOWCASE. A club may have one entry in each category. DIVISION I - 9th & 10th Grade. DIVISION II - 11th & 12th Grade. President - 10th or 11th Graders. Vice-President - 10th. They are designed to foster students' creative problem solving abilities. MATHCOUNTS offers parents and teachers a variety of materials to help prepare students for a successful outcome in the Competition.

All 2020 MATHCOUNTS state competitions originally scheduled March 12-31 are canceled.
The 2020 MATHCOUNTS National Competition (including the 2020 Math Video Challenge Finals), originally scheduled May 9-12, is canceled.
We understand the inconvenience and disappointment this causes for volunteers, participants and their families. Over the coming weeks, MATHCOUNTS will be working to process National Competition event refunds and identify alternative ways to recognize the students who would have attended the National Competition. We will post additional updates to this page as information becomes available and appreciate your patience and understanding.
MATHCOUNTS is actively monitoring this situation and will continue to follow the guidance of the CDC, World Health Organization and local and state health officials. The safety and well-being of our students and volunteers are our top priority, and in the event further changes in programming become necessary, MATHCOUNTS will post an updated announcement. MATHCOUNTS strongly encourages participants to comply with social distancing and disease prevention measures recommended by the CDC, WHO and local and state health officials.
